• Guest facilities

We are a licensed B&B with three en-suite double rooms, each with a superb view over a large swathe of Mid-Devon. Guests enjoy exclusive use of a private sitting room, with a wood burner. There is a seating area on the lawn in summer. A variety of massage and holistic therapies are available too.

  • The Bedrooms

Hillhead Farm is our home, and we are quite fond of it. The three double bedrooms are all accessed via a single staircase. All are en-suite, with walk-in showers, and share the same view, over the garden, our recently-planted wood, and the three river valleys beyond.

All rooms are centrally heated, have coffee & tea-making facilities, a radio, and a good complementary wi-fi connection – but no television.

We are open year-round, except for when we have other personal, family or business commitments. There is enough going on locally to keep you busy for a few days, but our greatest strength is that we are well-connected to the rest of the region, which us makes a great stopover location.

  • Exe is the largest room, at 14 square metres. It has a king size bed with what guests describe as an impressively comfortable mattress. Its triple arch window has individually designed, solid oak shutters that keep out the light at night, reduce oppressive heat during heatwaves, and help to keep heat in during cold snaps. It has an enclosed en-suite walk-in shower and toilet.

Standard cost: £ 135.00 for two, £125.00 for one, including breakfast.  Subsequent nights £10 off.

  • Creedy is the middle-sized room, at 13 square metres. Its modern king size bed has a metal frame and decent supportive mattress. Its old open fireplace will not support a fire, sadly. The bedroom sash window has blinds. So does the en-suite walk-in shower and toilet, though use of this is optional, as it is not overlooked.

Standard cost: £ 125.00 for two, £115.00 for one, including breakfast.  Subsequent nights £10 off.

  • Culm is the smallest river and the smallest room, at 11 square metres. Its king size bed has a comfortable and supportive mattress. The room has an old open fireplace, though this will not currently support a fire. Its bedroom sash window has blinds. It has an enclosed en-suite  walk-in shower and toilet.

Standard cost: £ 115.00 for two, £105.00 for one, including breakfast.  Subsequent nights: £10 off.

  • Breakfast and the rest

Breakfast is normally served between 08:00 and 09:30, around a single, large table in the dining room. Other times are negotiable, the more so with advance notice.

Our cooked breakfast is proper English (two rashers of bacon, sausage, mushrooms, grilled tomato and the almost world-famous scrambled eggs), plus teas and coffees, juice or smoothies, toast, cereals, porridge and anything else we happen to have in stock.

With advanced notice, we can offer a home-made single plate supper on arrival for £12.50 per head, or a pretty good cheese board at £10 or £15.

The residents’ sitting room has a working wood burner in the winter, and garden view all year.  Guests are also welcome to sit on the lawn in warmer weather.

We have an alcohol license and keep a stock of unusually fine beers from near and far, a local artisan cider or two, wines by the glass or bottle, and a variety of single malts.  These can be enjoyed in your room, or served in the sitting room, dining room, or garden.

  • Tim is a renowned beer writer and international competition judge.  He hosts tutored tastings featuring some of the beers from our cellar, sourced locally, or from around the UK, Belgium and elsewhere.  A tasting typically lasts 60 to 90 minutes, and involve being introduced to 5 or 6 beers, around 0.8 to 1.2 litres depending on the strength, talking you through their style and background, and likely meandering off into random stories of dubious relevance on the way.  A tasting requires a minimum of two guests and must be booked in advance. The cost depends on the number attending, starting at £ 40 each for two people and reducing to £ 20 per head for 6 or more.  We can call on a number of local beer beer geeks to make up numbers and keep costs down, if you are happy with that.  Enquire below, or via the contact page.
