• Hillhead Farm Bed & Breakfast

Hillhead Farm is a subtly renovated, Grade II listed, Georgian farmstead, To the east, an old quarry area has been extensively re-wilded, meaning that at different times of year, we can enjoy the company of up to thirty species of bird, including a large colony of sand martins, and a few nesting pairs of buzzards. Wild deer and other wildlife visit too.

  • About Hillhead Farm

Hillhead is our home, and we quite like it.  We are located on the Devon side of the Somerset border, at the top of a lane that comes straight off the A38, easily found with the simple instructions on the Contact page - better than your SatNav. In Summer 2025, we opened three comfortable en-suite double rooms, for bed & breakfast accommodation.

We are perfect for business travellers heading to Devon or Cornwall year-round; for people who are touring the South West without children; or anyone wanting a quiet break.

A cooked breakfast is included, with ingredients sourced from local producers wherever possible, served between 08:00 and 09:30.  Other times may be available with advance notice. No baked beans, hash browns, or other ultra-processed foods.

We do not serve lunch or dinner, but with notice may offer single-plate meals, or a cheese platter, for late arrivals, those who want a quiet night in, or the occasional guest who is partial to Tim’s cooking – or at least his taste in cheese.

We have been granted an alcohol license and when fully stocked can offer a range of high quality local, regional and imported beers; a couple of traditional local ciders; a few decent wines; and a dozen or so single malt whiskies. Soft drinks too, but no brand name lagers, plonk or industrial booze. It follows the theme we like to offer.

Included in the panoramic view is our recently planted wood - currently a bit underwhelming.  Eventually it will be broad leaf woodland, continuous with one to the east, where a huge old quarry will finally be vacated in 2028.  Its advanced state of re-wilding is already such that we enjoy the company of up to thirty species of birds, including a large colony of sand martins, and a couple of nesting pairs of buzzards. Wild deer and other wildlife visit too.

In summer, guests may use our enormous garden, while on rainy days there is exclusive use of a private sitting room, with a wood burner on winter nights.

Our main draw is peace and quiet – hence no TV in any of the rooms, though there are radios and you are welcome to stream whatever on your mobile device.
